In fourth class we are planting Lettuce in the school garden. We have three different varieties - Lollo Rosso, Oak leaf and Cos. Oak leaf and Lollo Rosso are coloured with a hint of red/brown on the leaves.

This is Lollo Rosso

This is an example of cos lettuce.
We had to be sure to leave plenty of space between each of our plants in order for them to have enough room to grow.
Our big worry is the birds and slugs.
A big thanks to John for securing a net over the top of the plants, this will keep off any birds and animals that want to nibble at our lovely fresh lettuce leaves.
Thanks to John for protecting our lettuce with some netting over it.
We also planted some seeds from India, Parvati (Chu chu). From the [picture it looks like aubergine, but we are excited to see what grows!
The seeds are tiny.... smaller than a peppercorn!
We planted them in window boxes inside as our Irish weather would be a bit too cold for them. We are keeping them watered but not too much as they wouldn't usually get a lot of rain in India. We are keeping them inside to keep them warm.
We'll keep you posted on how the seeds are getting on!
